The Monument Of Pekalongan
The Monument Of Pekalongan is
one of the most famous landmark in Pekalongan. It is located in Gajah Mada
street, Bendan, Pekalongan. The monument was surronded by a park which usually
people use it as a recreation park. Besides for recreation, it has many
historical value too.
This Monument was built to
commemorate the battle between Pekalongan’s citizen and Colonial Japan in 3rd
October 1945. Even though Indonesia has declarated its independence, but Japan
still stands its colonialism in Indonesia. So, many Indonesian citizen in some
district must fight against Japan to defend their country. In 3rd
October 1945 many Pekalongan’s citizen gathered in “Kebon Rojo Field” (now
Monument Of Pekalongan) to negotiate with Japan about the Indonesia’s
independence, but in the middle of negotiation Japan’s soldier suddenly shot
many Pekalongan’s citizen in that field. Many people died in that day, so the
government made a monument to commemorate the people which had fought to defend
Indonesia’s independence.
Besides the historical value,
The Monument also used for recreation for people, because it is surrounded by a
park which was so beautiful. In the evening, many people come to this park to
refresh their mind by doing many acivities such as jogging, playing skate, or
taking pictures in The Monument.
Every 3rd October,
The Government Of Pekalongan makes an event to commemorate the Pekalongan’s
citizen battle against Japan in the past. In that event, there are many
activities which was done, such as teathrical drama, food festival, and some
competition.
